Shrink Film | Romen Plast
Description
Shrink film is a flexible plastic—typically made from polyethylene or polyolefin—that shrinks tightly around a product when heat is applied. This packaging method not only enhances visual appeal but also protects items from dust, moisture, and damage during handling and shipping.
Shrink films come in materials such as PVC, POF (multi-layer polyolefin), and PE. Each material has distinct advantages, which are discussed in the next tab.
This film starts shrinking between 160°C to 220°C, creating a vacuum-tight wrap that’s ideal for packaging food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and more. The shrink wrap not only preserves product hygiene but also adds a neat, professional look.
Common applications span a wide range—from beverage bottles and food trays to furniture, electronics, ceramics, and bundled goods like soda cans and water packs. It improves storage efficiency and transport stability.
Shrink types: By Material
- PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Cost-effective with strong shrink rate, suitable for small/light products.
- POF (Polyolefin): FDA-approved for food contact, strong seal, durable, widely used in retail.
- PE (Polyethylene): Tougher and more flexible, ideal for bundling and industrial packaging.
Shrink types: By Production Method
Shrink films can be processed in various formats depending on the product shape, packaging machine, and customer requirements. The main formats include:
- Single-layer film: A flat film used for manual or automatic packaging.
- Center-folded (Tubular): A folded roll that opens into a tube shape, ideal for shrink tunnels.
- Side-opened film (Double-folded): A versatile form that facilitates quick application.
- Shrink Sleeve (Label): Used for full-body labeling and branding of bottles and containers.
- Four-folded film: Designed for large-scale wrapping of bulky items with added flexibility.
- Pre-sized/Sealed (Glove Type): Customized formats sealed to specific product shapes, easy for quick packaging.
