What is Bubble Wrap?

Bubble wrap is a polyethylene film embedded with air-filled bubbles that absorb shocks and protect items from impact damage during shipping and storage. The air pockets act as cushions, dispersing force and preventing breakage of fragile goods such as electronics, glassware, and delicate parts.

Types and Structure of Bubble Wrap

Structure

Bubble wrap is manufactured in two main constructions:

  • Two-layer: Two plastic sheets with one bubble layer—lightweight, flexible, covers more area per kilogram.
  • Three-layer: Three plastic sheets with two bubble layers—thicker, heavier, superior impact resistance.

Types by Bubble Size

  • Small (10 mm) – for lightweight, delicate items
  • Medium (20 mm) – general-purpose cushioning
  • Large (30 mm) – heavy or bulky goods

Types by Format

  • Rolls – standard or custom lengths up to 100 m
  • Bags & Pouches – pre-formed for quick packing
  • Covers & Sheets – protective overlays for large surfaces
